Today on ABC, I saw a sensational theater performance by Leonard Bernstein and a few famous other..it was spectacular that I barely moved from my seat and was glued to the couch. So here you go a synopsis of what Cancide is about…
Broadway and operetta unite in the New York Philharmonics performance of
the satirical, effervescent musical Candide by Leonard Bernstein - the
conduct
or and composer who was so intimately associated with the New York
Philharmonic. Equally drawn from the classical and musical theater worlds, the
cast includes Broadway’s Kristin Chenoweth as Cunegonde, Patti LuPone in a star
turn as The Old Lady, Paul Groves as Candide, Sir Thomas Allen as
Pangloss/Martin, Jeff Blumenkrantz as Maximilian and Janine LaManna as
Paquette.
Leonard Bernstein’s Candide is staged by Broadway actor-director
Lonny Price, whose recent work includes the San Francisco Symphony’s Emmy
Award-winning production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd in 2000. Leonard
Bernstein’s Candide features Bernstein protégé Marin Alsop conducting the
New York Philharmonic, with the participation of The Westminster Symphonic
Choir.
A must watch for theater enthusiast…

Beauty
Your lips, your eyes, your soul
Are like a work of art,
The most creative thing of all
Is your beautiful heart.
If you were a painting,
No colours could express
The beauty deep inside you,
A rainbow, nothing less.
If you were a sculpture
The clay could hardly make
Your figure of an angel
Without one mistake.
If you were a euphony
No choir could really sing
All the beautiful music
Your eyes could possibly bring.
So here I am, an artist,
With inspiration beyond belief
But to capture such rare beauty,
I’d have to be a thief.

Hey
all…as promised on my last post..here’s the snippet of the
documentary that I saw not too long ago..It’s really worth the watch to
see how the lives of these people were at that point of time. Professor
Tan describes the scene with extreme detail while he was place in the confinement cell that one will be definitely be overwhelmed with tears just picturing how much of torture one has to go through in life. The reason Professor Tan and his colleagues were put in those cells was because the Chinese goverment discovered that these teachers were teaching Western music to the chinese students and didn’t like the western influence one bit. They tortured these teachers and some of them just went plain crazy, some died and some committed suicide because they were treated like prisoners when in fact they were only educating and exposing the students to various music of the world. It is such a shame those sort of things happened in the past, i thank god they are a more civilizaed nation now despite the Falun Gong incidents.
On the brighter side, the kids in the school play where the teachers were teaching played beautifully…some of them are as young as 7 years old and the music they play is simply divine! Makes me feel like shit that I can barely make a tune on a musical instrument. Oh well, here’s a lilttle synopsis of the whole documentary.
SYNOPSIS
In 1979 Isaac Stern accepted an invitation to visit China as an official guest of the government. Accompanied by his family, Mr. Stern spent one month traveling through China learning
about this vast country and meeting the Chinese people, "first as musicians then as friends."
Mr.Stern met with musicians from all over China. He held master classes, visited schools, coached
young people, and worked with orchestras, as well as staging public performances. Wherever he went, he was received with great warmth and enthusiasm. A small group of American friends believed that this first visit by a musician of world stature could mark a turning point in the history of our cultural relations with China. They formed the Harmony Film Group, a not for profit organization, with profits shared between Carnegie Hall and a fund to further the exchange of music and musicians between China and the West. They traveled with Mr. Stern throughout China filming this extraordinary
and historic event.
FROM MAO TO MOZART: ISAAC STERN IN CHINA won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Documentary, and immediately opened theatrically to critical acclaim and achieved record-breaking attendance
in theaters around the world. Many major
critics honored the film by placing it on their lists of the "10 Best Movies of the Year." FROM MAO TO MOZART has become one of the most honored documentaries of our generation. Bernard Levin of The London Times declared, "This film won an Oscar in the
Documentary category; it deserves also a prize for its contribution to understanding,to art, to civilization and to humanity itself.
And to those whom are interested to watch the documentary, here’s the link to get your hands on it : From Mao to Mozart DVD

Dust If you must
Dust if you must, but wouldn’t it be better to paint a picture,
Write a letter, Bake a cake or plant a seed ponder the difference
between want and need.
Dust if you must, but there is not much time rivers to swim and
mountains to climb music to hear and books to read friends
to cherish and life to lead.
Dust if you must, but the world’s out there the sun in you eyes, the wind
in your hair, a flutter of snow, a shower of rain, this day will not come
round again.
Dust if you must, but bear in mind, old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go, as go you must, you yourself, will make more dust!

Millions
have used this timeless phrase yet the meaning never fades. It has
endured through time. Nevertheless, many people especially teenagers
seem to be using the expression to freely associate it with the
attraction between one another.
These three words, "falling in love" come out of our mouths. However,
what is the impact of falling in love? Why it is everyone in the world
appears to want to experience it? Here is my humble opinion.
Falling in love is when you begin to feel the sparks fly, bells ring
and feel the chemistry as the person enters the room. It might be the
boy next door, girl next to you in Science class, your brother’s friend
or even your own best friend. You can never control the feeling that
envelopes your heart and clouds your mind. It conquers you. It shows in
the way your eyes sparkle when you talk about that person and how your
heart flutters when his or her name is mentioned.
Falling in love is when you realize you know and learn to care for
another human being as much or more than yourself. When you start to
willingly share part of your life and secrets and dreams with someone
other than your diary. It’s when you trust your heart for someone else
to nurture it or to scar it. It is when you are ready to get to know
someone inside out and let someone do the same. It is even nicer when
the person you fall in love with treats you the same.
Everything has its good and bad sides. Sooner or later, the long phone
chats, the customary hugs and kisses, the constant dates and too much
spending time together will be boring and routine. No matter how hot
and passionate the feeling of "falling in love" was, it may soon fade
and die. Then comes the heartbreak and distress. Realization sets in.
You may be spending too much time with that special someone that you
might neglect your friends, studies and God.
Your world, which was revolving around him, crashes down, pinning and
squashing your heart. It certainly brings a lot of happiness while it
lasts, but behold as things turn ugly and the tables turn. I feel that
falling in love, whether or not you see it coming, will surely change
the way things are. It is another level of relationships. If you cross
the boundaries of friendship, chances are you can either go further or
just end up being nothing.
Lovers
who were friends at first are often left with bitterness. Once you
learn the consequences, the hardest part is to face the risks. If you
feel you are in love, do you express your feelings or push them aside?
What if the person you feel truly attached to and love actually feels
nothing for you? Or if the One turns out to be the complete opposite of
what you thought?
I believe that being in love and being in a relationship is a learning
experience. And we must understand that well before having a
relationship. Whether you are in a relationship now, or in the process
of "conversion," or still single, or you have just lost someone, you
must learn. And learning means it is okay to enjoy the friendship, to
enjoy each other’s companionship, to enjoy every moment of it. But it
is also learning to let go when you have to. To learn to respect your
partner’s feelings, thoughts and body.
It means you realize the responsibilities as sons and daughters of your
parents, and not to violate trust and love by getting involved in
actions you are bound to regret. It is learning to reject one softly
when you know you cannot return the love. It is to learn to accept
another human but be able to stand in the way should the person decide
to walk down the wrong and destructive path.
Falling in love does have its figurative meaning if you dwell long
enough on its literal meaning. Love is an emotion that can drive you
crazy one day and leave you down in the dumps the next. Falling in love
simply means that you have no control, no idea of what love holds for
you. You cannot stop yourself from falling once you begin to stumble.
It is basically being naturally out of control despite how level-headed
you are or how cold your heart might be. There is no right or wrong in
falling in love. There’s always a reason for everything. Falling in
love was, is and always will be a mystery that cannot be solved.
May you feel the endless and abundance of love everywhere. Have faith
that you will find true love when the time comes. And that is the end
of my psychoanalysis of falling in love.

Many people are afraid of growing old.
They say.."I’m afraid of growing old and boring".
Many people are afraid of growing old, alone.
They say.."I’m afraid of growing old, insane".
Many people are afraid of losing their looks.
They say.."I’m afraid of losing my dreams".
Many people are afraid of losing their youth.
They say.."I’m afraid of losing my soul".
When you’re 15, 35 seems ancient.
When you’re 35, 15 seems juvenile.
A turnaround in a split second - two decades zoom past and before you know it,
it’s only a mile to the next millennium.
Don’t fear age,it’s a right of person-hood.
Don’t fear death- it’s God’s greatest jest.
Don’t grow old - you don’t have to.
Don’t date because you’re desperate.
Don’t marry because you’re miserable.
Don’t have kids because you think your genes are superior.
Don’t separate because you think it’s fashionable.
Don’t drink because you have troubles.
Don’t gamble because you think winning is inevitable.
Don’t philander because you think you’re irresistible.
Most likely, you’re not.
Don’t associate with people you can’t trust. Don’t cheat. Don’t lie. Don’t pretend.
Don’t try to buy your way into the kingdom of God.
Don’t dictate because you’re smarter. Don’t demand because you’re stronger.
Don’t sleep around because you think you’re old enough and know better.
Don’t hurt your kids because loving them is harder. Don’t sell yourself, your family or your ideals.
Don’t stagnate. Don’t regress.
Learn a new skill. Find a new friend. Start a new career. Don’t live in the past. Time can’t bring anything or anyone back.
Don’t put your life on hold for possibly Mr. Right. Don’t throw your life away on absolutely Mr. Wrong just because your biological clock is ticking.
There’s always a mad rush to something, somewhere
- but
remember, victory does not always belong to those who finish first.
Sometimes, there is no race to be won, only a price to be paid for some of life’s more hasty decisions. You can’t always go with the throng who could be wrong.
Sometimes, you have to be alone to be enlightened.
To terminate your loneliness, reach out to the homeless.
To feed your nurturing instincts, care for the needy.
To fulfill your parenting fantasies, get a kitten or any pet.
Don’t bring another life into this world for all the wrong reasons.
To keep yourself warm, buy a jacket. In the long run, it will be less complicated and less costly.
To make yourself happy, pursue your passions and be the best of what you can be.
Simplify your life. Take away the clutter.
Get rid of destructive elements - abusive friends, nasty habits and dangerous liaisons.
Don’t abandon your responsibilities, but don’t overdose on duty.
Don’t live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your family.
Be true to yourself. Don’t commit when you’re not ready.
Don’t keep others waiting needlessly. Fall in love - it’s the greatest thing on earth.
But take care and remember, after the fall must come the rise.
Go on that trip. Don’t postpone it. Say those words. Don’t let the moment pass.
Do what you must even at society’s scorn.
Write poetry. Love deeply. Walk barefoot. Hold hands.
Dance with wild abandon. Cry at the movies.
Take care of yourself. Don’t wait for someone to take care of you.
You light up your life. You drive yourself to your destination.
No one completes you - except you.
It is true that life doesn’t get easier with age. It only gets more challenging.
Don’t be afraid. Don’t lose your capacity to love. Pursue your passions. Live your dreams.
Don’t lose faith in God. Don’t grow old. JUST GROW UP…
I couldn’t have said it better. Thought of the day : If we really got at least 10% of this into our heads…we might just simplify the complex problems we face in our life. Dont you think so? I do.

An online analysis I did not too long ago said THIS;
You scored as Theater.
You should be a Theater major! Like a bohemian actress, you
are seasoned and confident and not afraid to express yourself!
92% Theater, Philosophy, Linguistics (bullsh—it…)
83% Psychology, English (is my english that bad?… :-0)
75% Biology, Journalism, Sociology, Engineering, Chemistry
(hmm…geeky, wait I am doing that shit..OH NO!)
67% Anthropology, Art (what an idea!..<<in deep thought>>)
58% Mathematics (what’s 1+1; surely not 11!)
50% Dance (Are you kidding?, I love dancing! and I love music -_-)
It’s either I’m in denial or its a whole lot of crap…I can’t imagine myself in THEATER. Whoa! that’s too much ey. I mean I have nothing against it, really I think it’s really cool to have a career in that path, but ME..hell no! I love city life…I love tv, I love sleeping, I love computers..ok so you get the gist. How could I possibly be in theater? Hmm…oh well, I did ponder over it and I think I like what I’m studying. However,I do love Psychology & Philosophy, I actually wanted to take up Psychology as my career path, I have no idea what made me change my mind. I guess when you are young, you do make a few wrong choices before you truly know what you want to be in life. I can still remember in primary school, when we had to fill up the column ‘cita-cita’ or in english; ambition…all of us use to write things like ‘doktor’, ‘jurutera’, ‘peguam’ and many more. The question is did we really want to be all that?? Was it our parents ambition for us?? or were we just copying our friends answers. Either way we all grew out of it..and some of us may still be looking for the perfect profession…but truly, there isnt. It really boils down to what you truly want to be…for the rest of your life or until you reach mid-life crisis and realize you got it all wrong!. I’m currently reading the book ‘The Street Lawyer by John Grisham’ and it’s amazing how Michael Brock, a lawyer who has a posh office in a top lawyer firm- partner in the making leave all of that to become a street lawyer. His new salary is 10% per annum of what he previously earned per annum, so why the change? Very interesting book, you should read it. And so,I realize its very important to truly strive for what you believe in even if the world laughs at you, the most important thing is that your happy and love what you do.
I also decided to look up on IQ and read up on how does it affect a persons ability. Here’s what I got and came up with.
"The term IQ, or Intelligence Quotient,
What is this cognitive ability being measured? Simply put, IQ tests are Questions in each of these categories test for a specific
Because IQ tests measure your ability to understand ideas and not the But can you increase your IQ score? There is some evidence that
So your IQ score is relatively stable, no matter what education you acquire. This does not mean that you can’t increase your intelligence.
generally describes a score on a test that rates the subject’s
cognitive ability as compared to the general population. IQ tests use a
standardized scale with 100 as the median score. On most tests, a score
between 90 and 110, or the median plus or minus 10, indicates average
intelligence. A score above 130 indicates exceptional intelligence and
a score below 70 may indicate mental retardation. Like their
predecessors, modern tests do take in to account the age of a child
when determining an IQ score. Children are graded relative to the
population at their developmental level.
designed to measure your general ability to solve problems and
understand concepts. This includes reasoning ability, problem-solving
ability, ability to perceive relationships between things and ability
to store and retrieve information. IQ tests measure this general
intellectual ability in a number of different ways. They may test:
cognitive ability, but many psychologists hold that they also indicate
general intellectual ability. Most people perform better on one type of
question than on others, but experts have determined that for the most
part people who excel in one category do similarly well in the other
categories, and if someone does poorly in any one category, he also
does poorly in the others. Based on this, these experts theorize there
is one general element of intellectual ability that determines other
specific cognitive abilities. Ideally, an IQ test measures this general
factor of intelligence, abbreviated as g. The best tests, therefore,
feature questions from many categories of intellectual ability so that
the test isn’t weighted toward one specific skill.
quantity of your knowledge, learning new information does not
automatically increase your IQ. Learning may exercise your mind,
however, which could help you to develop greater cognitive skills, but
scientists do not fully understand this relationship. The connection
between learning and mental ability is still largely unknown, as are
the workings of the brain and the nature of intellectual ability.
Intellectual ability does seem to depend more on genetic factors than
on environmental factors, but most experts agree that environment plays
some significant role in its development.
children develop higher intellectual ability if they receive better
nurturing and diet as babies, and a higher degree of intellectual
stimulation in preschool tends to boost children’s IQ scores for a few
years of elementary school but does not permanently increase IQ scores.
For the most part, adult IQ scores don’t significantly increase over
time. There is evidence that maintaining an intellectually stimulating
atmosphere (by learning new skills or solving puzzles, for example)
boosts some cognitive ability, similar to the way maintaining an
exercise regimen boosts physical ability, but these changes aren’t
permanent and do not have much effect on IQ scores.
IQ tests are only one imperfect method of measuring certain aspects of
intellectual ability. A lot of critics point out that IQ tests don’t
measure creativity, social skills, wisdom, acquired abilities or a host
of other things we consider to be aspects of intelligence. The value of
IQ tests is that they measure general cognitive ability, which has been
proven to be a fairly accurate indicator of intellectual potential.
There is a high positive correlation between IQ and success in school
and the work place, but there are many, many cases where IQ and success
do not coincide."
