Amigos para siempre

June 9th, 2006 by melissategjeu

This is a song that I fell in love with when I was 16. It really has a lot of meaning to me and if you hear the spanish version, its way better. The singers are Jose Carrerras and Sarah Brightman. Yes, its a little bit on the high pitch singing…but hey what can I say. I love Sarah Brightman.

————————————– Spanish Version ————————————————

Amigo, ya que al
cielo tu haz partido
solo una cosa a
mi Dios yo le pido
que entre sus
brazos te encuenteres dormido
Amigo, para
nosotros siempre serás amigo
te haz marchado
pues lo quizo el destino
en nuestra mente
siempre estarás vivo,
amigoooo,
amigoooo.

cielo tu haz partido
solo una cosa a
mi Dios yo le pido
que entre sus
brazos te encuentres dormido

Amigo, para
nosotros siempre serás amigo
te haz marchado
pues lo quizo el destino
en nuestra mente
siempre estarás vivo,
amigoooo,
amigoooo.
Que es lo que
debo hacer para yo conformarme
si dia a dia lo
que hago es recordarte
quisiera tenerte
frente a frente y explicarte
para que veas
cuanta falta tu me haces.

Que es lo que
debo hacer para yo conformarme
si dia a dia lo
que hago es recordarte
quisiera tenerte
frente a frente y explicarte
que aunque te
hayas ido, tu siempre serás…

Amigo, ya que al
cielo tu haz partido
solo una cosa a
mi Dios yo le pido
que entre sus
brazos te encuentres dormido

Amigo, para
nosotros siempre serás amigo
ta haz marchado
pues lo quizo el destino
en nustra mente
siempre estaras vivo

amigoooo, amigoooo.

Fun With Words: Word Oddities

June 5th, 2006 by melissategjeu

First I’d like to apologize to everyone who’d been reading my blog, I know i’ve got a few mistakes in my post at times, but u see my brain thinks to fast for my hands to even start typing a new word so sometimes you just gotta fill in the blanks ey… :) <<I’m serious, its embarassing but I dont care, its inevitable! and its MY BLOG!..my thoughts, my views, my life! >> enuff of my rants…
anyway, in today’s episod, I bring you yet another..do you know? blog post…ehehe…

DO YOU KNOW??? What’s the longest word in
the English language?

We searched on longest word in the English language and found a number of sites that
deliberate over this very question. The answer really depends on what qualifies
as a word.

For example, chemical names can be thousands
of letters long. If you wrote out the name of a DNA molecule, it would be over
1,000,000,000 letters. But are these really words? It seems even dictionaries
can’t agree. "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilico-volcanoconiosis"
is the longest word in non-technical English dictionaries, but according to the
Oxford English Dictionary, it is a fictitious word created just to claim the
title of longest.

One of the longest place names is 92 letters, the name of a hill in New Zealand that is typically
called just "Taumata." And for those with a sense of humor,
"smiles" is considered the longest word because there is a
"mile" between the first and last letters. Check out this link;

http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu

Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu
is the Maori (language) placename on an otherwise unremarkable hill which is
305 metres high, close to Porangahau, south of Waipukurau in southern Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. The placename is often shortened to
Taumata by the locals for ease of conversation.

The placename on the sign that marks this hill is spelt as
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu
which roughly translates into English as The brow [or summit] of the hill [or
place], where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid [down], climbed
[up] and swallowed mountains, [to travel the land], [who is] known as the Land
Eater, played [on] his [nose] flute to his loved one. At 85 letters, it is one
of the longest placenames in the world. There are several alternative
translations and variants in spelling.

It has also been spelled as:
Tetaumatawhakatangihangakoauaotamateaurehaeaturipukapihimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuaakitanarahu,
which is 92 letters, and has been entered into the Guinness Book of Records as
such.

The longer version of the name is apparently more recent, or
perhaps more formal. There are claims that the longer name, which is now shown
on a sign, has been in use all along by local Maori. The Welsh argue that the
longer name has been contrived to be longer than
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, which some others
argue was contrived to be the longest British place name in the first place.

unbelievable. believe it.

Harry Belafonte - Coconut Woman lyrics
————————————————

Coconut woman is calling out
And everyday you can hear her shout
Coconut woman is calling out
And everyday you can hear her shout
Get your coconut water, four for five
Man it’s good for your daughter, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

A lady tell me the other day
No one can take her sweet man away
I ask her what was the mystery
She say coconut water and rice curry
You can cook it in a pot, four for five
You can serve it very hot, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

Coconut woman says you’ll agree
coconut make very nice candy
The thing that’s best if you’re feelin’ glum
Is coconut water with a little rum
It could make you very tipsy, four for five
Make you feel like a gypsy, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

from a friend who cares…

June 2nd, 2006 by melissategjeu

I have
one friend who has asked to remain anonymous, and no this is not me, I
swear it.  No one ever gives me elaborate excuses when they cancel on
me.  They just get shady and never explain why or never speak to me.
However, this friend, over the past few months has gotten some of the
most elaborate excuses from girls that I have every heard.  Seeing as I
have already labeled some A-D, we’ll call this person Friend E..yes, i’m being creative here :P

Here’s what usually happens.  E meets a girl, gets her number and
they speak.  Then they make plans, or the girl will say she will call
him back.  Then the girl will either cancel, not call him back, or not
call him, and send a TEXT MESSAGE the next day.

[AN ASIDE:  People c'mon now...text message cancellation!!!  If it
were guys, I'd say grow a set.  If you are cancelling get some guts and
do it with some courtesy...technology sometimes makes us forget that
the people we are speaking to are...well...PEOPLE who deserve
resepect.  END OF ASIDE]

Anyway, I’ve listened to his many phone calls and emails and the
most common excuses come into three categories.  Death, Busy, Sick and
Car Accident.  Friend E is apparently a relative killer.  If you date
him there is a good chance that your uncle or grandfather will die.  Or
perhaps maybe only a relative will be in a car accident.  He also is
likely to cause you to get ill on nights you are supposed to go out
with him, or suddenly cause your schedule to fill up so much you cannot
find the time to make a 30 second phone call ("so hectic").

Given the unreliableness (is that a word?),…well now it is ;).. my friend E will make several
plans for a weekend expecting the usual cancellations.  From this past
week, here are the actual excuses he received from three girls:

1) A text message an hour before they are supposed to meet on
Saturday night claiming that she was on her way to the hospital with
her parents because her brother had gotten into a car accident, and she
didn’t want to leave him hanging.

2) A girl that never called him back.  E then sends her a message
saying why did you bother to give me your number if you were never
going to call me.  She then calls and leaves a voicemail.  The
voicemail is given late Saturday night saying that her Uncle had passed
away on Thursday.  Every time she was thinking about calling him, a
relative would call.  Imagine that, at every moment, the relatives
timed their calls perfectly.

3)  My favorite one.  Oh everything was hectic these passed few
days.  I have not had a spare minute to make a phone call (sent by text
message)…which takes longer…composing a text message or a phone call??..hmm..

Now you really cannot call people out saying you don’t believe them
on the first two.  The problem is, he gets these several times a month
(yes I know…E gets out a lot, and his habits are not pertinent to
cancellation excuses, so save the comments on that).  The fact is, a
lot of relatives are dying and becoming erratic drivers, so much so,
that you just don’t believe them anymore.

So girls, and guys that do this, remember the girl who cried wolf
parable?  This is going to happen to people because of all of you who
lie.  Either that, or dating E is a curse upon your home…

Longest movie in History

May 15th, 2006 by melissategjeu

I was watching a movie last weekend, Mission Impossible 3. Well, my comments, its a good show, its just that you’ve seen MI 1 & MI 2 …which makes you have this high expectation on the 3rd. My personal opinion, I think its pretty good…but not as good as Inside Man. That was a brilliant plot and I think Clive Owen rocks; even though his age is begining to show..ehehe. And so, I wondered…what if the movie sucked..OMG! it would feel like forever for that damn movie to end…I’m sure those who watched Lord Of The Rings Marathon would have been in the movies for what …10 hours, yeah an approximate figure. But based on my ‘research’….LOTR is not exactly a long movie….check this link out..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_longest_movies_in_history ; it suggests that THE CURE FOR INSOMNIA at 5220mins in the USA, 1987 is the world’s longest movie…Let put it in perspective for you, that’s 87 hours..or 3.625 days..so tell me who in their right mind is gonna watch that crap!..Definitely NOT ME!

cheers guys!

Winterwear Fashion

May 9th, 2006 by melissategjeu

Just to get right into it, ear muffs should make a
comeback…seriously.  Hats suck.  Yes, I know…your hat is cool…so
cool that you wear it all day long even when you are indoors.  Well my
hat is alright, but I do not want to wear it indoors.  In fact, I do
not even want to wear it at all.  There is always that one bump in the
hat that you cannot get rid of, no matter how hard you try to stretch
the hat down.  Then there is the the problem of having to take off the
hat and dealing with hat hair.  Nothing like taking off a hat and
having your hair stick up in 32 different directions.  I am aware that
the hat keeps your head warm and thus makes you warmer in general, but
it’s mainly my ears that sting, and I think ear muffs would get the job
done.  So to someone that is a trend setter…please make earmuffs cool.

As for everything else, Work is awesome in a way…but stressful in the other. University…is just overloading me with too too much work. I dont think I have a real life anyway…I’ve been out for the past 2 weeks..de-stressing just on weekends, seems to keep me sane. But lately, I dont think thats gonna work for me anymore, dang. Oh well, here’s to another week of stress..sigh.sigh.

It’s been a while since I blogged here ey, dang. I will try to update more often but dont think thats gonna happen…well hope all is good with you guys. Keep in touch.

Friends…where are you?

April 24th, 2006 by melissategjeu

Sometimes i look back in life and wonder where the people we call our friends are at now.

The people from our school days, our college and even uni days, people we used to work with, play with and cry with.

I’ve got good friends from my school days who just live a couple of rows from my home, and some are a couple of continents away. it’s an irony that my closest friends in school are the ones who are far away from me now. and then there were the ones from after school. where’s matthew? last i heard, he’s was studying piloting. where’s dinesh? dunno. where’s elissa? where’s kimberly? where’s nik? he used to be a guy who never seize to amuse me. i miss you. where’s amy and king-king? where’s ah-chai? heard he’s working now. damn, how we all grown. only one i kept in touch with was brendon, so he does update me occosionally on the rest. For those friends in Australia; Adrian, Melissa, Balraj, Barnez and Raghu…I do hope we keep more in touch. And well my bestest friends, wendy and lynn..we go down a long long way. I’ve known lynn for  12 years and wendy for  9 years…yes these 2 monkeys , I LOVE TO THEM TO BITS!!! I’m missing you both heaps here..sob sob.

I’ve met loads, and I mean loads of people when i started working and studying in Australia. some became friends, some moved on and the one i missed most is carol. we used to work in st.george, some farm in australia. haven’t seen her for so long. do i miss her? very much.

In recent years, I’ve met loads of new friends, and a bunch of them thru my social clubs and gym. some are knuckleheads, and some are nice. will we stay friends? dunno. hope so. especially with the nice ones =)

As i look back at my life, i ask, "who are my friends?" "what are friends?" are they anchors? or drifters?..who’s to tell..I guess being so far from where I was born has it’s ups and downs.Indeed nothing is like home.

Calories are numbers on the Devil’s abacus

April 13th, 2006 by melissategjeu

Okay, my time is REALLY
short today: not only do I have to finish my UML, Sequence Diagram for my project, but it’s
also probably the longest one, as I flying to Adelaide in 8 hours from now..Since its been ages I have not seen Adrian, Balraj and co..haha, there will be heaps of things to catch up on.Looks like we plan to stay up all night or something man..EEEeeeeEeeee…cant wait.i miss the gun we used to have back in msia. Anyway, I’ll update pictures from my holiday ok :)

HOWEVER -

In
my few minutes before crashing out to bed last night at 1:30 AM, upon of my assignment, I decided to use my ‘free
time’ and begin research on, once again, calories.

Here’s what I found:

http://www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalcs.html

The web site itself is for Calorie Control,
and the articles, as I glanced them, looked quite informative and
interesting (another thing to add to the list when I finish my project). However, after entering my data, I found that I should consume 2450 calories a day to maintain.
Okay, I’ve done that, even though Calorie King suggested 2300. I
subtracted my 500 calories of exercise per day, along with removing my
300 calories a day as their weight loss formula figures, and, I am
still at around 1800. So, moral of the story: I am still not eating
enough. CK is not figuring in people like me, as few and far between as
we may be, who are more active than the Average Bear.

This
formula is making more sense the longer it takes to sink it. The few
days I "allowed" myself to get to 1800 - 1900 calories a day, I
suddendly felt my waist get flatter, my pants get more baggy and my
rings falling off, losing the usual sodium bloat that has a hold on
them (could also be statin-related). Go back to 1700 and - WHAMO
- tight rings and belly bloat again (body holding onto everything
because it’s feeling like it’s in starvation mode, even at 1700?).

Much
to ponder. If anyone does this, please let me know your results. I have
allowed myself to become the Human Guinea Pig once again and I think I
am going to try this out for the next two weeks…If i manage it that is…<<giggles>>

Chocolate Maniac…

April 10th, 2006 by melissategjeu

P4090018_1P4090021_2

P4090019_2

Call me a nutter..all weekend plus today..I’ve been eating so much chocolates..too much actually but how much is too much. I’m a big big chocolate fan..yes I’m the type that can eat a 500g chocolate bar for dinner, I’m talking about eating all this chocolate at one go here. Yes, its amazing I still  keep my weight under control…ha ha OK..I hear you people laughing all over the floor…oh stop! The bunny is an Easter gift that I finished eating for dinner yesterday…oh boy o boy…it was s00o0o good…I fell sorry for the bunny, I really did, but he tasted so good…I couldn’t help myself!..I tried…<<giggles>>

..today after class I usually rush to work but since class finished early.. I had a little time to spare..I know walking pass queen st is a big no-no nevertheless my heart was  bigger than my head and I decided to walk on queen st to get into Wintergarden (that’s where I work). Just before reaching work, I saw the Darrel Lea Chocolate shop. Outside stood this huge egg coated with massive chocolate..it had a chocolate like fountain where the chocolate was pouring from the top to the bottom making the egg have a glossy look. I tell you, anyone in their right mine would have just loved to take a  big bite at it. I was obviously more civilize therefor I just peeked from the outside. Yet again, my heart takes over my head and I get into the shop…OMG! It’s like heaven coated in chocolate  EVERYWHERE!..I was just gonna go chocolate crazy there. Luckily my conscience came back to me, so I grabbed what I wanted,  a  rocklea road…its marshmallows covered with chocolate and peanuts…YUMMY! oh..oh…they feel so heavenly in your mouth!..I guess Easter is a time to indulge after all the sacrifice during the lent! I’ll upload more pics on my other craving…chips!
